The News and Observer (Raleigh), 6/26/1929:
"There are well over 200 busses now carrying the State's red and
white bus license plates but not one of them is No. 13.  'For two
years we've been trying to pass that plate on everybody that buys
a tag but they won't take it,' declared Miss Margaret Sherill, of
the Corporation Commission."

The News and Observer (Raleigh), 2/12/1930:
"NEW BUS LICENSE TAGS EFFECTIVE ON MARCH 1"
"The State Prison license tag plant being ready to make the 400
pairs of plates necessary, the new North Carolina bus tags will be
sent to bus owners in time to go on the busses by March 1, it was
learned at the Corporation Commission yesterday.  In the past the
commission has used a single, enameled license plate which had no
date.  From now on it will require two tags, dated and issued
annually.  The busses do not pay for these tags, their license
cost being based on the amount of revenue they take in."

The News and Observer (Raleigh), 2/14/1930:  "R. O. Self, State
Director of Motor Vehicle Transportation, yesterday sent out
notices to all passenger and freight motor carriers that the new
license tags, corresponding to the tags used on private cars, had
been received and would be exchanged for the present bus tags upon
filing of information required by the department.  Director Self
hopes to have the new tags on all buses by March."
